Hard coat stucco is also called traditional cement stucco. It is a three coat system. First comes the lath, a metal mesh fixed to the wall. Then a scratch coat, a brown coat, and a finish coat go on one at a time. Each layer has to cure before the next. The result is a hard, solid shell that bonds to the structure and holds up for 50 years or more.
