The Mall was a building project that was part of the City of Cape May’s Urban Renewal Program, which ran from 1965 through 1971 and was dedicated on June 24th, 1971. This program ran from 1965 until 1971. The program’s objective was to transform the central portion of Cape May into a picturesque showplace that included a rejuvenated downtown area. This was to accomplish two goals: first, to improve the quality of life for locals, and second, to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region.
