CAUSE & MISSION

The YMCA knows collaboration is the key to achieving long-lasting social and personal transformation. Because of this, the Y’s mission is to build its community on all levels—mind, body, and soul. They collaborate with their neighbors every day to ensure that everyone has the chance to achieve their full potential. Check it out now!

Through programs that foster the principles of compassion, honesty, respect, and responsibility, they are committed to promoting the development of strong children, strong families, and strong communities. The YMCA is dedicated to assisting everyone in developing a healthy spirit, mind, and body and provides services to all consumers, regardless of age, gender, religion, or financial situation.

Strength in numbers

There is no other charity like The Y. They have the presence and alliances not just to promise but deliver good change in 10,000 areas throughout the country.

They’re thrilled to have you join their family, whether you decide to donate, sign up, volunteer, or share your own experiences.

HISTORY

A community cornerstone’s past, present, and future

The YMCA offers more than a neighborhood pool, daycare center, or gym. They work to address everyone’s wellness requirements as a caring, nonprofit community center so that they may all live healthier lives. Individuals may learn, grow, and prosper when healthy lifestyle choices, social responsibility, and youth development are encouraged.

Situated at the intersection of Lake Avenue and High Street in Metuchen, the YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, and South Amboy opened its doors in 1921. Charles Edgar of Edgar Clay and Mineral, a local businessman, provided the first funding for the structure. Although they have evolved over the years to keep up with the trends, the love and support Mr. Edgar envisioned for their community still exists today.

Since opening that initial location in Metuchen, they’ve grown to include two more areas in Edison and South Amboy, an outdoor pool, ten daycare facilities, and ten-day camps. Your Y is now Middlesex County’s biggest supplier of childcare services, allowing children of working parents access to a secure and stimulating environment.

Each year, the Y serves over 35,000 of your friends and neighbors’ particular needs, thanks to more than 1,000 committed volunteers. Each Y is distinct, but they share one thing: their people. They combine men, women, and children with individuals like you and your family to demonstrate what you are capable of.

WORLD SERVICE Community Roots, Global Reach

Did you know that the YMCA is active in 125 nations in North America, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia?

Along with more than 230 other YMCAs in the United States, those in Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, and South Amboy are dedicated to fostering relationships with their overseas counterparts.

To foster greater global understanding, the Metuchen Branch YMCA collaborates with the Y in Freeport, Bahamas, offering financial assistance, staff exchanges, and program creation. They were able to assist:

The Bombay

South Asians make up over 60% of the membership at the Edison Branch YMCA, so working with an Indian Y to provide everyone with an international experience made it logical. Members of the Edison Branch may take advantage of exchange activities with peers at the Bombay YMCA in Mumbai, thanks to a collaboration started by YMCA Board Member Dinesh Karnani in 2009.
