A patch fixes a damaged section, not just a thin crack. Think of a hole, a crumbling corner, or an area where the stucco has pulled away from the wall. We remove the failed material down to a solid edge. Then we rebuild the spot in coats and match the finish. It is more than filling a crack and less than redoing a whole wall.
People call us for patching for all kinds of reasons. A hole left by a satellite dish or old hardware. Damage from a ladder, a car, or a storm. A corner that has chipped off. A hole from a woodpecker or a nesting animal, which is common across New Jersey. A past patch that failed and popped out. If a section of stucco is missing or loose, a patch is usually the fix.
First, we look at the damage and check the area around it. If we think water got in, we test for moisture and look for rot behind the wall. We cut the bad stucco back to a sound edge. Then we rebuild the patch in layers, just like a fresh install, and float it flat. Last, we use careful color matching so the patch blends into the wall. When we finish, you should not be able to find the spot.
Not every job is a patch. A thin crack only needs sealing, which we cover on our stucco crack repair page. If the wall is sound but just looks tired, our stucco resurfacing page may be the better call. But if we find rot or heavy moisture behind the wall, a patch alone will not fix it. EIFS takes damage too, and it patches differently than cement stucco. The foam and finish layers each need the right repair, or water can get trapped.
